The Wegovy® Pill is the first FDA-approved oral GLP-1 medication for weight management. It contains the same active ingredient (semaglutide) as injectable Wegovy® but is taken daily as an oral tablet instead of a weekly injection.
In clinical trials, the oral form achieved 13.6% average weight loss at 64 weeks, compared to 14.9% at 68 weeks for the injectable. Both are clinically meaningful results. Your provider can help you determine which format is best for your goals and lifestyle.
Yes. The Wegovy® Pill should be taken on an empty stomach with a small sip of plain water, at least 30 minutes before eating, drinking anything other than water, or taking other oral medications. This ensures proper absorption.
Side effects are similar to injectable GLP-1 medications and may include nausea, diarrhea, and constipation. These are usually mild and tend to improve over time as your body adjusts. Your Ivím provider will monitor your response and adjust your treatment plan as needed.
Yes. Patients can transition between the oral and injectable forms of semaglutide if clinically appropriate. If you start with the pill and your provider determines that the injectable would better serve your goals, they can help you make that switch seamlessly.
Coverage varies by plan. While Ivím’s pricing is manufacturer-set through Novo Nordisk, we work with top health insurance and benefits companies to help make your medication affordable. Some patients use HSA/FSA funds to cover medication and membership costs.
Insurance companies we work with include Cigna, Aetna, United Healthcare and Blue Cross Blue Shield.
Pharmacy benefit managers we work with include Express Scripts, Caremark, Navitus and Prime Therapeutics.
